Friday 14 September 2008
The Company Section started it's second week with the Boys trying to learn some drill followed by a practise for a drama that will maybe be shown in the Church in Mid November if all goes well. Games followed with a choice of TT, Board games, football etc.

During the summer recess two of the new light fittings were found hanging by the wires for no apparent reason.
A study was made of the broken lights in the hall to see if it was possible for a football to have caused the damage to the two fittings but it was not possible to see how a ball could have caused the damage. The mystery goes on.

Fraser was posted missing not feeling very well. Hope you get better soon Fraser and see you next week hopefully.

Queens Badge News 16 March 2008
Well done to Adam, Neil, Nick and Ross who have all now completed the Queen's Badge Course which was held on 14 - 16 March 2008 at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre. Early reports from the tired team suggest that this was a great weekend where around 50 Queen's Badge Candidates met up and enjoyed taking part in team building activities. The next stage should be a formal report back to the Company indicating the results. Good luck gentlemen.

Saturday 15 March 2008
Swimming ....The Swimming Gala was attended by about 40 Boys from the Junior Section and Company Section. Events were organised in year groups and within each group there was a range of abilities. Heats where appropriate were held and at the end of the night everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. We had from the Company Section Fraser, Gregg and Neil. Fraser managed to crash during his heat into the side wall and had a bang to his head which gave him a bit of a fright. His mum and dad sitting upstairs in the spectator gallery must have got a bigger fright when they saw him staggering about but big brother Cameron who was also watching did his runner and came down to get an update. Well done to Neil who picked up the silver for the P7/S1 breast stroke event.

Ten Pin Bowling The District Ten Pin Bowling night has been arranged for Tuesday 18 March 2008 at its usual venue Pro Bowl in Stroud Road East Kilbride. The cost this year is £9 for two games and is subject to everyone being paid in before 6pm otherwise the cost rises alarmingly. The event is open to all Company section ages and is generally a very good night. I will be there to start the event off but have to come back to the Church as its the Stated Annual Meeting. This means that on Friday i'd like to know if any parents can help with transport and also stay during the games to supervise along with the other Company Officers present. parents will be most welcome to have a game as well. The usual burger chips and coke is also available along with many other eats. Prices are about £2.49 for a children's meal. Hope to see as many of you out as possible.

Friday 15 February 2008

The Company Section meets at 7.30pm as normal as many of you have indicated that you are back at school. See you then.

Sunday 10 February 2008
Many thanks to Alex Ross (Cameron and Fraser's dad) who has put on doors providing us with a new cupboard to use for the tuck shop.

Friday 8 February 2008

Meet at 7pm for film night. We will start the film about five past seven so that there is plenty of time to see it. The tuck shop will be out during the film on the stage. No Uniform required. We should be finished around 9.30pm but you should ask is whoever is picking you up to come into the hall rather than wait outside till the film is finished.

Friday 25 January 2008
Coming up in the next few weeks: Trip to Gourock to see what the Coastguard's do. Visit to Xcape to walk the ceiling. An overnight expedition will also need to be planned for the better weather. Any takers for 5's?

The new style badges have arrived and they look a lot better than the previous range. The recruits who started this session in P7 will be awarded the compass badge at the morning service in the next week or two when I get a time from the minister. This is the first of the new badges to be awarded and as this is the 125th anniversary of the BB I thought it would be fitting to mark the occasion as this badge scheme is likely to see the Brigade develop in strength in the next 20 years.

Tuesday 15 January 2008
While some of the seniors were stars in the School show at Woodfarm, or were training for future events Adam and Frazer headed down to Riley's Pool Hall for the Eastwood District Pool Competition. 16 Boys took part in a knockout tournament which comprised of everyone in a group playing each other for as many games as could be had in two hours. At the end of a nail biting semi final Adam struggled at times to find his mark but came back with a positive black ball to win a place in the final. The final kicked off just after nine fifteen with everyone sitting or standing around trying to get the best view. Adam set off at a controlled pace and held the game well right to the black when his opponent had four balls still to pot. The crowd stood silent as Adam aimed his queue at a long black into the top right hand pocket. The ball set off at a pace striking the perfect angle on the black sending it crashing into the pocket. The crowd cheered and Adam's delight was short lived when a one voice somewhere shouted, "Oh No" and everyone turned to see a slow running white travel to the middle left pocket where it limped over the edge into the pocket. The winner looked on in amazement leaving Adam to a journey home wondering 'what if.'
Hard luck Adam you were unlucky.

Friday 11th January 2008

We start back after the Festive Period at the usual time o f7.30pm on Friday 11th January 2008. We are looking forward to having another great session. If you have any friends that would like to come let them know that they will be most welcome.

Christmas Meal and Film Night

Remember its a 7pm start and please bring enough money to buy your meal. We will see a film starting at about 7.30pm and depending on its length we will finish at the usual time. When parents arrive to collect you it might be an idea to come into the hall for a heat rather than sitting outside while the film finishes. If any parents want to join us for our evening you will be more than welcome just bring your own dinner money!!!

Also

CARNIVAL

Any Parents thinking about going to the Carnival might want to think about making it a BB outing so that the Boys go as a group. If you are interested let me know by clicking here please.

Diz Quiz Winndizquiz scoresers - Well Done Boys!!
dizquiz winners
The District Diz Quiz took place tonight at the Headquarters of the 45th BB at Shawlands Parish Church. Mr Inglis chaired the venue which saw entries made up of P7, S1-S2, s3-S4 and S5-S6 from the 9th, 45th, 60th, 79th 145th and our own company. There were ten rounds of ten questions made up from general knowledge, sport, bible and BB subjects. The scoring was very close throughout but the brains from the 86th in the form of our team comprising Greg Philips, Greg Paterson, Frazer Shaw and Neil Huchison took the lead at an early stage showing skill in the Harry Potter round. At the end of the evening after a closely fought battle the 86th with 74 points were awarded the shield for being the winners. The winners also received a Gold medal. Our thanks are expressed to Mr Inglis and his staff for organising the event of behalf of the District and also to Mr Watson RO who adjudicated and Mr Storrie, Queens' Badge Convener who provided all the Boys' with cans of juice and packets of crisps. Well done again Boys.

Go Karting - Successful Night Out

27 places were taken at The Garage for a night of Go Karting, Ten Pin Bowling and Pool. It was a great night out of fun for those attending. This is something we will do again and its an ideal venue for family outings especially is a few get together as it means that the group all keep together with no others joining them. Many thanks to all the dads who came and supported the event. Sorry that the images are a bit dark. If you download them they will be a bit clearer when they are enlarged. Thanks to Murray Shaw for the images.

Friday 26 October 2007

With a few absences due to other commitments, we still remain the 2nd largest company in the District. Well Done BOYS.

Tonight the BOYS were faced with a situation which removed from their grasp all the balls and other items they could use for sporting games and in their place had three small buckets. As we were approaching Founders day, the idea was that BOYS all around the world are part of the family of the BB and they too would be thinking about this anniversary. All BOYS are limited by what was made available to them to use for games yet were able to have fun. Tonight we found that there were many different ways to use a bucket to have some fun with.

Gold Award at 201st Headquarters Queens Park Parish Church

This evening RO Mr John Couper was a special guest at the presentation of the Gold Award to six of our company Boys who were awarded the Gold Badge after completing 3 years service in the Junior Section where they took part in all the various activities and badge work. Well done to Craig Hutchison, Gregor McLeod, Greg Phillips, Fraser Ross, Ryan Smith and Richard Winton on this great achievement.

Mr Couper read a poem which he wrote many years ago and which was as true today as when it was written. It reflected on a young BB member who was keen to join his company BB football team but was only ever picked to carry oranges on at half time for the team! He had two left feet, no sense of balance, short eye sight yet did his best at anything he was asked to do. As the session went on the team was reaching the final and the young boy was as keen as ever to get picked but he was kept on with his special job of bringing on the oranges at half time. During the cup final the BB team goalkeeper got carried off and they had used their sub by that time and the only one available was yes you've guessed it was the biggest day of his life as he proudly took to the field and into the goal area. Soon he was to be tested fully when the opposition were awarded a penalty. The centre half strode to the ball sitting on the penalty spot and battered it with all his might towards the goal. The wee man slipped and fell and never saw the ball coming towards him at a great speed but it hit off his face and went round the post saving the day for his team who went onto win.

The moral of the story is what the Boys' Brigade is about. Be you taller or smaller, bigger or thinner, clever or not so clever, agile or not so agile there's a place here for you and we will ensure that you are challenged within your ability to have a great time. There was a good turnout at headquarters of the 201st where the Captain Mrs Smith led the Service assisted by the Captain of the 45th Mr Campbell. Our thanks go to Mrs Smith and her team for a great night.

Friday 05 October 2007
Dodgey Ball continued this week with the meek and mild 86th Boys trying hard to throw the new balls without taking the heads out of the opposition. Having four balls to play for everyone got knocked leading to a finale between Neil and Adam. In a tense session Mrs Howard was seen to absent herself commenting that Dodgey Ball in the Brownies was never like this. If you are reading this and haven't been along to see this do so at your own risk its brrrrrrrrilliant!!

The Discovery Program has started and this week a notice of the District Competitions has been published. Click here to see the events and put a note in your diaries. If you are new to the Company Section, these events are great fun and well worth attending.

Remember next week is a Video Night and no uniform is required. Bring along something and we'll take a vote and watch the winner. Remember to tell your parents that it might be late in finishing and to ring the bell and come in when they call to collect you.

Friday 28 September 2007
dodge ballIn a dramatic late entrance Gregor appeared with his arm in plaster a result of a bad fall at football he told us. The night saw some of the Boy's measuring and cutting shelves to go into a cupboard and others learning about Road Safety and Risks. Tonight saw the introduction of the four ball extreme dodge ball game and first impressions are that the new balls have to be respected as it hurts just a tiny bit more than the previous ones!!!
Watch you don't get hurt! We had another good turnout tonight and if any one is reading this and wants to come along, be at the Halls for 7.30pm next Friday. Remember 9.45 on Sunday for Fusion. If you are in the know you'll appreciate that Sundays are a great opportunity to meet up for chat, games and food. You'll be away for 12.15. If you want more details email or phone me.

Look forward to seeing any new faces. Remember if you want to arrange a visit to go karting etc you'll need to let me know numbers very soon or you'll miss the chance.

There is no meeting next Friday (21/09/2007) as the Schools are off. Have a good break and see you on Friday 28th September.

is booked for Saturday September 29th. See below for details.

The Discovery Badge Programme material looks brilliant and I am sure everyone of all ages will see the many benefits of this course. From how to wallpaper, how to manage a bank account to fixing bikes, and much much more are all covered. Even better news is that all the material required is laid out in a manner that can be followed easily meaning that parents and helpers can now with comfort assist in the running of our Company. Even the change over from the Get the Credit Badge course is simple and we will attend to this asap.

Friday 31 August 2007

Numbers were slightly down tonight with Adam at a DOE event, Neil and Lyall at Birmingham UK Sports, Fraser R not well, Fraser McP and Gregor working. Stuart F and Matthew B awol - gents we need to know if you are not coming. Thanks to all the others who did as it helps the evening plans.

The new recruits moving up from the Junior Section led the older boys by miles with their presentation tonight. New uniforms and everyone looking very smart indeed. Your parents must have been very proud to see you taking your first big step into the Company Section. Well done Mums!

Plans were ahead with lots to do tonight only to be asked when we arrived to assist the MIssion Task Group by delivering leaflets around the area promoting the many activities available at our church.

The Boys willingly undertook this task and having split into three groups with an adult to each group they took to the streets delivering the leaflets. A big thank you to all the Boys from me as I know that this activity impacted on your time on your first night. Some of you must have wondered what was going on but rest assured its not all like this.

In the meantime Mr Blair had come along to help with gluing several images of the BB logo onto a hardboard frame only to have to wait until the Boys' returned. Mr Blair had cut out out the size of the background while we were away and everything was looking well until a few minutes after the first sheet was stuck to the hardboard when things started to go slightly wrong. The smooth image of the anchor suddenly was changed and lots of air bubbles starting popping as the paper sucked in the adhesive. Who says everything always goes to plan? In the best tradition samples were on hand of what the finished product should have looked like so we'll try this aging. So watch out folks for large BB posters appearing around the Church halls in the near future.

Good to see Greg, and Craig who arrived for their first night. Hope you and everyone else all enjoyed this odd night.

Next week back to normal and no leaflets to deliver I promise.

Anyone wanting to go to the go- karting again in October let me know. As a reminder we went to The Garage in Kilmarnock last year where there was Go-Karting and Ten Pin Bowling under the one roof along with a Wimpy area.

karting-1

This was a good night. Last year we only booked the go-karting but you might want to consider doing either or both. This is a full night out and parents are welcome to come along as well.

What about 5 a sides? Any takers? Its your Company. Talk about it, text each other, find out what you all want to do and lets see if we can make it work. Drop me an email if you have any thoughts on these ideas.

Good news is that the Discovery Badge program material has finally arrived so we will work though it and start to work out what the transfer requirements are from the Get the Credit Scheme over to the Discovery Scheme so that everyone gets a fair start.

See you all on Sunday. For those of you just starting, if your in P7 Sunday mornings are no longer for staying in bed. Meet the rest of the Company at the Church somewhere near the back of the front section of seats for 9.30 stay there for about 10 - 15 mins then head off to a venue in the Church for 30 mins before hitting the halls for some games, chat, juice and toast keeping you there until you leave or around 12.30 at the latest. You'll be at one of the biggest breakfasts in the area every Sunday with between 16 and 22 boys and girls having a great time. This venue is for P7 to S6 and everyone is welcome its not just a BB event. Mums and Dads can help as well on a Sunday by taking a turn to burn! or make the toast which ever you are best at. Regular prizes are awarded for the best Burnt Toast.

Thanks for all your help tonight it was very much appreciated.
